Paddy Bort Fund, set up by the Edinburgh Folk Club, Scotland. Paddy ceaselessly encouraged traditional singers and musicians and the fund in his memory will help those who have lost their livelihood during the pandemic.

In February 2017 EFC's widely respected chair, Eberhard "Paddy" Bort died suddenly. The club ran a fund raising concert in Paddy's memory in June 2017 and created the Paddy Bort Fund (PBF) from the concert's profits. The sole intention of the PBF is to provide financial support to professional folk performers who may be in financial difficulties for whatever reason.

We have already aided a few musicians before and during this pandemic and with your help we can continue.

We do not believe that the lockdown we are currently living through will end soon for concert venues, pubs and clubs and gatherings like concerts of any size are unlikely to be allowed before the end of 2020. Many professional folk musicians are going to be severely hit as a result.

Folk musicians are not well paid at the best of times, the majority do not have any savings of note, many don’t have pensions and they certainly don’t have sufficient to see them through several months of such enforced inactivity. The upshot of all this is that organisations like Edinburgh Folk Club, who have a vested interest in the survival of professional folk performers, need to support the performers who give us all so much pleasure in normal times.

All money from these downloads will help boost the Paddy Bort Fund.

John Drumbo French from Captain Beefheart and The Magic Band worked with Thompson on two albums along with Fred Frith and Henry Kaiser. Those two French, Frith, Kaiser and Thompson albums led me to this. Also, Richard Thompson taught Hugh Cornwell (of The Stranglers) how to play the bass guitar in a band when they were both at the same school (Emil and The Detectives?).
